Football:
Despite matching
undefeated eventual champion Cathedral Catholic's two touchdowns, the
Pointers lost a hard-fought 20-14 CIF Division III quarterfinal match
Nov. 28 on the victor's field, ending their dream of a fourth-straight
appearance in Qualcomm Stadium.
The Pointers
finish the season with a 6-5-1 record and a tie for second place in the
Western League (3-1-1).

Quarterback Keegan Fitzgerald (3) scrambles for the
Pointers as Moe Smith (50), James Fink (55) and Zach Gemmill (26) provide
blocks.
"We (the coaches) are proud of you guys," said an emotional
head coach Mike Hastings in the locker room following the game. "You
didn't leave anything out there on that field," he added as tears
streamed down the faces of many exhausted players.
A large number of
returning players and strong Junior Varsity and Freshman teams (both won
league titles with 5-0 records) provide a bright outlook for next
