With a record of 15-3, Point Loma's varsity baseball team is off to its best start in years.

Sporting a team batting average of .369, the team has achieved its success hitting line drives resulting in 33 doubles and 9 triples compared to 5 home runs.

Senior Ridge Deakman leads starters with a .441 batting average and 30 hits. Junior Zach Skarbic is close behind at .417, while sophomore Campbell Wear, filling in for an injured player, is blistering the ball at a .529 pace. Senior relief pitcher/first baseman Jake Martin is 5 for 9, a .556 average.

Pitching, a question mark earlier, has become a pleasant surprise. Sophomore Kellen Urbon has been a standout with a 7-0 record and ERA of 2.05.

In early April, the Pointers captured the championship of the City Tournament with a thrilling 12-9 defeat of Scripps Ranch. Earlier in the day, the team gave Mira Mesa a 13-5 drubbing in the semi-final contest.

The Pointers are currently 3-1 in Western League action after an 8-3 win over Mission Bay.

League play concludes on May 21 followed by CIF playoffs. Go Pointers!
