Homecoming is on October
16th. Join us for football (vsMissionBay) under the lights (one night per
year) at PLHS. Look for the alumni seating section. And
please walk with us in the Homecoming parade so present Pointers
can see what Alumni spirit looks like. Wear your Pointer colors (or
if you still fit into something from high school, wear that!) We will
provide kazoos. Meet us on the field just before halftime.
Pointer Alum,
Jeffrey Bennett '76, to speak at PLHS October 22 at 6pm.
Join us to hear Astronomer, Teacher, Writer
and Pointer Alum, Jeffrey Bennett speak on campus. (he will address students earlier in the day.) His book
"Beyond UFOs" was required reading for the class of
2012 at Univ. of MiamiOhio. His focus on looking
beyond our selves, and beyond our world, as we look to the way we shape the
future is inspiring and thought provoking. Please reply by
email if you plan to attend.

I am
honored and privileged to have the opportunity to teach, coach and serve
the students and community here at PLHS. My wife, Irma, and I have
two daughters, Maegan, 23 years old (a graduate
of VillanovaUniversity and
current graduate student at SDSU) and Shelby, 17 years old (a Senior at
PLHS). We've lived in Point Loma for many years and have raised our
family in our OB/PL community.
I would
like to continue to work towards bringing our community together here at
PLHS.

In the past two years the
"Picture Yourself A Pointer" day has been very successful in
linking together the staff and students at Correia Middle school with
students and staff at PLHS; We look forward to hosting this event again
on Dec. 10th when students from Correia will be hosted by PLHS
students and staff for campus tours and an introduction to programs and
activities available at PLHS.
Our Surf PE class is the only
program in the SDUSD to offer such a course, alumni and community members
can come down to O.B. and find close to 50 PLHS students surfing 3-4
times a week. This class was made
possible by numerous community members coming together and supporting our
students and working with our Principal Bobbie Samilson to make it
happen.
It is these types of collaborative
efforts that help to make PLHS a truly unique community school, with the
emphasis on giving our students the most comprehensive educational and
athletic opportunities in San
Diego.
Our athletic programs have continued
to improve under the direction of Coach Hastings with the Men's tennis
team capturing it's second consecutive CIF Championship, the Women's
Soccer team winning it's first ever CIF Championship this past year, and
the football team poised to compete for another CIF Championship this
year.
I would encourage everyone to check
the school's website www.pointlomahigh.comto find schedules
of all of our events as we have many teams that will make the playoffs
this year and continue our tradition of Pointer Pride.
Our school is blessed to have a very
dedicated and caring staff of teachers, coaches and support staff, please
join us in serving the next generation of Pointers.
Classes of 49,
54, 59, 64, 69, 79, 84, 89 99 all enjoyed
great reunion events this summer and fall. Next up: Class of
58 re-reunion (had so much fun they are doing it again!) and the
"early Grads" (26-47) events.
Plans are in
the works for Classes of 60, 80, 85, and 90. Let us
know of other events coming up!

dramatic reduction in charitable giving across the country. The Pointer Association needs your help more than ever to

The PLHS Pointer Association New name; Still making great
things happen!
The PLHS Foundation and Alumni Association has
a new name. We are now officially the PLHS Pointer Association. We have
also added the actvities and volunteer support
