October 2013
With
school back in session, and many alums enjoying the
memories and friendships rekindled at Reunion events, it must be Fall! This eUpdate includes pictures from this year's Reunions and
news about Alumni activities at Homecoming. Hope to see many of you on Nov.
8th.
PLHS Homecoming is Friday November 8th
This is the one game played ‘under the lights’ each
year and it is not to be missed. Thanks to the encouragement and enthusiasm of
many Alums who enjoyed successful reunions this year,
we will be offering several activities specifically for Alumni at Homecoming.
- Campus Tours: Free. If you missed the tour with your reunion group,
this is your chance to see all that PLHS has become….and even sit in one
of the original classrooms for a blast to the past! The tour on Nov. 8th
will begin at the Spirit of the Pointer dog statue in the main quad
promptly at 3:30. Don’t be late or you may have a hard time catching up to
us. The tour lasts about 75 minutes and includes
some stair climbing.
- Alumni Meet and Greet: 4:45-6pm. $10. Alumni are invited to join us at the Performing
Arts Center on campus (right behind the Dog Statue.) We will have pizza,
water, and soft drinks, some memorabilia, and historical video of PLHS,
OB, and PL.
- Cost for the Meet and Greet is
$10 to cover food and beverage
(This does not cover game ticket.*) Exact cash only will be accepted at
the event. (Some
reunion chairs may be collecting money from their attendees prior to the
event. The will provide a list of anyone who is prepaid.)
We
need an approximate headcount for both the Tour and Meet and Greet so please RSVP (and include your grad year*) by email before November 6th.
(*We
honor our most senior alum in attendence at the
Homecoming game: 'the Golden Pointer'.)
- Varsity Homecoming Football
Game 6:30pm: Varsity FB vs
Madison. We plan to have a section of seats reserved in the stands for
Alumni (those seats must be occupied by 6pm as we cannot hold them beyond
that time.) There will also be seating on the field at the endzone corner.
- We will have game tickets for
sale until 5:45pm for those attending the Meet and Greet. (Senior citizens
are free, but still need a ticket.)
- Alumni Walk in the Homecoming
Halftime Parade: Feel the Welcome of coming
home as we lead off the Homecoming Parade! Meet at the gate onto the FB
field at the ‘maroon wall’ end of the stands 5 minutes before halftime.
You will see our banner. If your class has its' own banner, bring it! The
walk lasts about 5 minutes and after that you can return to the stands to
enjoy the rest of Homecoming.

what Alumni Spirit is all about!
Final Details about Homecoming will
be coming by eUpdate around November 4th.
Reunion Recap
This summer and fall found many PLHS
Alums from class years ending in 3 and 8 enjoying Reunion events (including my
own class, 1973!) We thought it would be fun to include pictures from some of
those events.

Lunch at the Bali Hai and a more formal event at Admiral Kidd Club.
Class
of 1958
Campus Tour included a visit to the
PLHS Music Center (in the old Woodshop building), and a photo op at the Spirit
of the Pointer Statue
Class
of 1963
On campus in the Motion Picture Industries Facility, the Weight
Room, and one of the only original classrooms that remains on campus!

Kudos to Mitch
Murphy '72 and Barbara Yancey Franklin '73 for their work on the Wave Goodbye to MS paddle around the
pier. Mitch was co-chair of this first annual event. It was a great day and
there were alums from many classes at PL who paddled and supported the event.

raises fund to support and staff the PLHS Athletic Training Department with a

and help support both men’s and women’s golf teams. Team members are selling
Farmer’s Insurance Open Golf tournie tickets for $30
(a discount of up to $15 over at the gate tickets and $20 per ticket goes to
PLHS.) Enjoy a great day of golf and help the Pointer Golf team. For more info

Cabrillo
Lights Up the Night event
to celebrate 100 years of the Cabrillo Lighthouse has been postponed until
March due to the Government shutdown of National Parks. New date will be
announced soon. www.cnmf.org

MADCAPS Mom? There is a sustainers group waiting
for you. Renew ‘old’ friendships and make new ones. Find out what
Philanthropies we are doing. Come to the show March 20, 2014 (Free for
